M. Night Shyamalan

Last week casting news starting coming in on the upcoming project Devil, which is being helmed by John Dowdle (Quarantine). And now we have some details on just who is going to be bringing the Devil to life.

Brothers John Erick and Drew Dowdle, whose [REC] redux Quarantine was awarded a Grimmy for Best Zombie Film during last Tuesday evening's Reaper Awards, are about to embark on their next project, a horror-thriller based on an M. Night Shyamalan story entitled Devil.

Seeing as how the John Dowdle directed Quarantine (review) and M. Night Shyamalan's tale of deadly trees both failed to impress many of us, there's a good chance that combining the power of both filmmakers may produce something semi-quasi-somewhat amusing. Well, we're hoping, at least.

M. Night Shyamalan appears to have no intention of moving away from our genre at all. I guess that's good news for his fans who were not bummed out by The Village, Signs, or even the big windbag known as The Happening (review).

M. Night Shyamalan isn’t fully stepping out from behind his ego yet, but this is a step in the right direction. Variety announced this morning that the man who made The Happening and has yet to apologize for it has inked a deal with Media Capitol Rights to produce a thriller per year under a banner known as The Night Chronicles.

Fox were kind enough to provide us with some interview footage for The Happening, M. Night Shyamalan’s first venture into R-rated territory. The on-cameras are with M. Night himself, star Mark Wahlberg, and stars Zooey Deschanel and John Leguizamo. In addition, be sure to get The Happening press conference audio for your iPod, you’ll feel like you were there! The Happening is in theaters this Friday, July 13th!

I don’t know about you guys, but I’m really looking forward to seeing what M. Night Shyamalan has in store for us when The Happening is released on Friday, June 13th. For once the ambiguous trailering in which you’re told pretty much nothing is actually working in the film’s favor, at least for me.

A good amount of horror fans out there have probably already guessed correctly about what M. Night Shyamalan's The Happening (official site) will be really about, but for the rest of the folks it is still a mystery.
