Detroit Man Caught Exposing Himself Asleep At ‘Love Lies Bleeding’ Screening [Horror IRL]

Once upon a time, the movie theater was a sacred place. Years ago, our biggest concern was someone talking during the film or chewing their popcorn too aggressively. Those days are long gone. With the advent of cell phones, people seem to have lost sight of how to be respectful in a cinema. But today’s story is one of the worst breaches of theater etiquette I’ve learned of in quite some time. It seems a Detroit man forgot he was in a theater and allegedly began masturbating when a screening of Love Lies Bleeding proved to be a bit too stimulating. Worse yet, the patron then proceeded to fall asleep with his junk on display.
The story made headlines after a Twitter user shared a series of tweets, accompanied by an NSFW image of the suspect. The thread reads: “Went to go see ‘Love Lies Bleeding’ and this drunk guy jacked himself off to sleep. For the record, the manager handled the situation professionally and appropriately. The manager was extremely apologetic and very nice.”
The image that accompanies the tweet shows a couple of small bottles of alcohol and a pack of cigarettes sitting on the table beside the theatergoer.
Variety caught wind of the ordeal and confirmed the story with the Southgate Police Department. The outlet additionally spoke with a manager for MJR Southgate who also confirmed some of the details of the uncouth display of anatomy.
There is no word yet on what charges the patron may face for his alleged crimes. But he was still in police custody as of last Friday.
Love Lies Bleeding was recently released theatrically by A24. The film follows Lou (Kristen Stewart), a reclusive gym manager who falls hard for Jackie (Katy M. O’Brian), an ambitious bodybuilder who’s heading to Las Vegas to pursue her dream. Their love soon leads to violence as they get pulled deep into the web of Lou’s criminal family.
