Guillermo del Toro’s Priceless Horror Collection “Bleak House” Safe from LA Wildfires—For Now

Guillermo del Toro is more than just a 21st Century horror master of the highest caliber (responsible for modern classics like Pan’s Labyrinth and The Shape of Water), he’s a collector who’s amassed a near priceless collection of genre memorabilia. From props from his own movies to pieces from past classics, he recently loaned out the gems of his collection for a nationwide exhibition that visited numerous museums.

When the collection isn’t touring, it’s stored at del Toro’s Los Angeles area home, dubbed Bleak House. While the residence is currently in the thick of relentless wildfires plaguing much of Southern California, the lauded filmmaker took to Twitter in order to announce that he and his collection are safe—for now. He’s also extremely grateful.

“Just an update:  Bleak House (I am told this morning) seems to be fine.  Just minor smoke damage.  I am aware about how much this fire has taken, how much has been lost- this is humbling and a blessing.”

While the loss of property pales in comparison to the loss of life (no matter how valuable the object) it’s still a relief to know that del Toro’s important and invaluable collection of genre memorabilia is (so far) safe and sound.
