King Kong

Melbourne, Australia will be the home to an amazing upcoming production of King Kong and this one is a musical, performed live on stage with an 18-foot tall animatronic Kong puppet. Check this out!

We have seen many iterations of King Kong over the years, and each has been met with varying degrees of success. Just when you think that there couldn't be anything more absurd than the pendulous breasts on the female gorilla in King Kong Lives, the flick is now getting the musical treatment!

The world of special effects has lost a true legend. The name Carlo Rambaldi may not jump out at you at first, but believe us when we tell you this under-appreciated genius is responsible for bringing to life some of the genre's greatest creatures.

Sharks, dogs, rats, snakes, even earthworms. Any one of them (being big enough, or with enough of their friends) can kill you dead…quickly. The animal world is pretty much a bastard with big teeth and an insatiable appetite waiting to eat whatever lesser life form comes across its path. Piranha 3DD is the newest reminder of that.

Even with Rise of the Planet of the Apes rapidly approaching, 20th Century Fox isn't ready to quit monkeying around! Speaking of monkeys, the biggest of them all is getting ready to tell an entirely different tale.

After a couple of light on horror weeks, we are finally treated to a bumper crop of new releases. Headlining the week is Frozen, which is just what we in Southern California need to stave off our current heat wave. A couple of oldies but goodies are out, too, as Madman celebrates its Happy 30th Birthday and the original King Kong comes to Blu-ray.

Finally the granddaddy of them all, the original 1933 masterpiece King Kong, is hitting Blu-ray high definition next week, September 28th, and we've got a look at not only the cover art but three clips from the disc's bonus features! Start beating those drums!

I'll never forget that fateful morning driving westbound on the I-134 and rounding the bend to see Universal Studios in flames. The pillars of smoke rose high enough to blot out the sun, and all of us were left with an unbearable sadness as miles of backlot - including Hill Valley, the King Kong exhibit, and vaults of archival material - perished in that godawful fire. Thankfully, Universal and Peter Jackson have made the best of a bad situation, and we now have a brand-new Kong attraction.

Lots of theme park goers will be spending the Fourth of July weekend at Universal Studios Hollywood to take part in what will no doubt be an historical afternoon as the biggest gorilla of them all takes up residence in his new stomping grounds.

As an unabashed lover of Peter Jackson's King Kong remake, today's news has me all kinds of giddy! There have been lots of rumblings of a new Universal Studios attraction involving the Eighth Wonder of the World, and now you can hear all about it from the director himself!
