Today on VOD: The Harvest, Infernal, Lost River, The Sisterhood of Night and The Reconstruction of William Zero

We’re still one week away from this year’s next big theatrical release in the form of Unfriended, so you’re probably looking for some new horror flicks that you can pass the time with. Am I right? Read on for a rundown of today’s VOD offerings!
First up, Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer director John McNaughton makes his long-awaited return to horror with the Michael Shannon-starring The Harvest (review), put up for instant viewing today by the fine folks over at IFC Midnight.
In the film, Maryann moves in with her grandparents after she’s orphaned. Desperately lonely, the preteen sets out to befriend a neighboring deathly ill, bed-ridden boy, despite the outright disapproval of his mother. Maryann’s persistence pays off, however, and during a series of secret visits she gradually uncovers some seriously sinister goings-on in the house.
Up next, Uncork’d Entertainment grants a theatrical and VOD release to Bryan Coyne’s Infernal (review), which is billed as being in the tradition of classics like Poltergeist and The Omen.
Written and directed by Coyne, Infernal tells of a young family torn in half when they discover that their insomniac daughter has made contact with an evil being beyond our reality.
Ryan Gosling makes his directorial debut with Lost River, which receives a theatrical and VOD release today. The film stars Christina Hendricks, Saoirse Ronan, Eva Mendes, Iain De Caestecker, Matt Smith, and horror icon Barbara Steele.
Lost River is set against the surreal dreamscape of a vanishing city. Billy, a single mother of two, is swept into a macabre and dark fantasy underworld while Bones, her eighteen-year-old son, discovers a secret road leading to an underwater town. Both Billy and Bones must dive deep into the mystery if their family is to survive.
Also in limited theaters and on VOD outlets today is The Sisterhood of Night (review), coming at us courtesy of Freestyle Releasing. The film marks the feature debut of Caryn Waechter, and our own Matt Boiselle gave it an impressive 4-star rating.
Based on the short story by Pulitzer Prize-winning author Steven Millhauser, The Sisterhood of Night is a story of friendship and loyalty set against the backdrop of a modern-day Salem witch trial. Shot on location in Kingston, NY, the film chronicles a group of girls who have slipped out of the world of social media into a mysterious world deep in the woods.
The tale begins when Emily Parris exposes a secret society of teenage girls. Accusing them of committing sexually deviant acts, Emily’s allegations throw their small American town into the national media spotlight. The mystery deepens when each of the accused takes a vow of silence. What follows is a chronicle of three girls’ unique and provocative alternative to the loneliness of adolescence, revealing the tragedy and humor of teenage years changed forever by the Internet age.
And last but not least, genre icons Melissa McBride (“The Walking Dead”) and AJ Bowen (You’re Next, The Sacrament) star in Dan Bush’s sci-fi flick The Reconstruction of William Zero (review), out today via FilmBuff.
In the film, cutting edge geneticist William Blakely wakes from a mysterious accident with fragmented memories and has to re-learn his identity from his twin brother. But when William digs deeper, he realizes the shocking truth: This is not his life at all.
