‘Scream 7’ – Neve Campbell Set to Return; Original Writer Kevin Williamson Will Now Direct

Interesting news emerges today in the land of Ghostface and friends. It seems that the drama-riddled production of Scream 7 is back on track after a number of politically charged stops and starts over the past several months.

Neve Campbell announced on Instagram today she is returning to the Scream franchise and will reprise her iconic role as Sidney Prescott with original creator Kevin Williamson at the helm in Spyglass Media Group’s Untitled Scream 7.

Williamson also confirmed the news with a post on Instagram, just in case anyone was wondering the legitimacy of the update. The title page for the scripts both horror icons posted confirmed that Guy Busick (Scream, 2022 and Scream VI) is taking over the screenwriting duties from James Vanderbilt. Radio Silence, who directed the two previous chapters, will serve as executive producers on the seventh film.

Neve Campbell famously declined to appear in Scream 6, citing a low-ball offer and feeling undervalued as the reasons for stepping aside. In recent years, she has appeared in the Twisted Metal series, the action thriller Skyscraper, and the successful Netflix series The Lincoln Lawyer. Fans will be thrilled to see her returning alongside franchise royalty and original screenwriter Kevin Williamson.

There is no word yet if any of the previous series leads will return. The drama surrounding Melissa Barrera’s ousting has plagued the seventh film, with some speculating that her removal was also the catalyst for the exiting of cast member Jenna Ortega and previously announced director Christopher Landon.

It will be interesting to see how all of this shakes out and if fans are willing to support Scream in the wake of its recent political turmoil.
