This Day in Horror: Happy Birthday Ken Foree

“Large, likable, and muscular,” actor Ken Foree was born as Kentotis Alvin Foree on February 29th, 1948, in Indianapolis, Indiana. He became an icon of horror following his powerhouse performance in George A. Romero’s Dawn of the Dead, released in 1978. He’s worked steadily since, appearing in From Beyond, Terror Squad, Phantom of the Mall: Eric’s Revenge, Leatherface: Texas Chainsaw Massacre III, The Dentist, Dawn of the Dead (2004), The Devil’s Rejects, Halloween (2007), The Lords of Salem, The Rift: Dark Side of the Moon, and many others.

Trivia:
When playing the televangelist in the Dawn of the Dead (2004) remake, he quoted the same line he said as Peter in Dawn of the Dead (1978): “When there’s no more room in hell, the dead will walk the earth.” (Source)

He appeared as himself in the 2008 novel, Bad Moon Rising, by Jonathan Maberry. Foree is one of several real-world horror celebrities who are in the fictional town of Pine Deep when monsters attack. Other celebrities include Tom Savini, Brinke Stevens, James Gunn, Stephen Susco, Debbie Rochon, John Bloom (aka “Joe Bob Briggs”) and blues-man Mem Shannon. (Source)
