It was No. 1 at the box office last weekend and has been the topic of more discussion among horror fans than just about any other film in recent years. So of course Rick Trembles had to add his $.02 about the phenomenon known as Paranormal Activity.
On Thursday, October 23rd, Heather Wixson (also known around these parts as "The Horror Chick") was on hand for a special Paranormal Activity Midnight Screening and Party at the AMC at the Block in Orange, California. Those in attendance got special VIP passes to the event as well as a gift bag stuffed with a poster, limited edition t-shirt, and other goodies.
A few days ago we told you about Paramount throwing Paranormal Activity parties across the country for the first ten theatres selling out their midnight shows this Thursday. Now we're trying to make that happen for Orange County, California residents.

The final weekend box office numbers are in, and once again Paranormal Activity kicked a copious amount of ass, earning a per screen average that was almost three times as much as its closest competitor. And to celebrate, Paramount is throwing a party at the first ten theatres that sell out their midnight screenings for this coming Thursday night.
Now that you and 999,999 of your closest friends have demanded it, Paranormal Activity is opening wide this weekend, and in honor of that event, Paramount has released a new trailer for the film, which they were kind enough to provide to Dread Central.
**UPDATE: The final numbers are in, and Paranormal Activity was under-estimated. It actually came in FOURTH with $7.9 million!** After this weekend Paranormal Activity can officially be upgraded from a cult hit in the making to a pop culture phenomenon getting ready to explode. Made for around $11,000 and currently playing on only 160 screens, Paranormal Activity came in fourth at the box office with a - HOLY CRAP! - take of $7,900,695. That is a gargantuan $49,000+ per screen average, more than likely a record for a film on that many screens.
Who says the general public has no muscle? Horror fans? We're a rowdy and robust bunch. We like what we like and we aren't afraid to cause a ruckus to get what we want. That being said ... you wanted it? YOU GOT IT! Paranormal Activity is now poised to open wide!
