This Day in Horror History: Happy Birthday Julie Benz

On this day in horror history, actress Julie Benz was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in 1972. Benz is perhaps best known around these parts for her role as Rita Bennett in Showtime’s classic serial killer series Dexter with Michael C. Hall and Jennifer Carpenter.

She has also appeared in such genre flicks as Rambo, Saw V, Punisher: War Zone, The Boondock Saints II: All Saints Day, Jawbreaker, Two Evil Eyes, Shriek If You Know What I Did Last Friday the Thirteenth, 8mm 2, and Havenhurst.

She is also well known for her recurring role as Darla in both Buffy the Vampire Slayer and its spin-off series Angel. Not to mention roles in such classic shows as Married… with Children, Step by Step, Boy Meets World, and Layla Rourke in Supernatural.

TRIVIA:

Benz was married to John Kassir (the voice of The Cryptkeeper) for 10 years.

She was also once ranked the number 12 ice skater in the United States. She competed in the 1988 U.S. Championships in junior ice dancing with David Schilling, placing 13th.

She turned down a role in Stanley Kubrick’s Eyes Wide Shut with Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman when she learned that she’d have to do the scene topless.
