Celebrated Horror Author Ray Garton Jr. Has Passed Away

Very sad news today in the world of genre literature. Iconic American horror writer Ray Garton Jr. passed away on April 21, aged 61, after battling lung cancer. His novels include Seductions, Darklings, the Bram Stoker Award-nominated Live Girls, Crucifax Autumn (aka Crucifax), Trade Secrets, The New Neighbor, Lot Lizards, Shackled, Biofire, The Folks, Scissors, Night Life, The Loveliest Dead, Graven Image, Ravenous, Serpent Girl, Bestial, and Frankenstorm, among others.

You may also be familiar with Garton’s short fiction, which has been collected in Methods of Madness, Pieces of Hate, The Girl in the Basement and Other Stories, ’ Nids and Other Stories, Slivers of Bone and Wailing and Gnashing of Teeth.

Garton will also be remembered for several YA horror titles under the pen name Joseph Locke, including Petrified, Kiss of Death, The Teacher, Game Over, 1-900-Killer, Vengeance, Vampire Heart, and Deadly Relations.

Under his own and the “Locke” alias, Garton also published the movie and TV novelizations Invaders from Mars, Warlock, The Nightmares on Elm Street Parts 4 & 5, Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Resurrecting Ravana, and three Sabrina the Teenage Witch tie-ins. In 2006, he was named a World Horror Convention Grand Master.

Ray Garton was also known for the experience he had uncovering possible truths surrounding Ed & Lorraine Warren while writing the book In A Dark Place and its behind-the-scenes stories. Check out his thoughts here:
