The Horror of Breeding Jean-Claude Van Damme

The Horror of Breeding Jean-Claude Van DammeOver a decade ago there was talk of a movie that would have cast Jean-Claude Van Damme as a park ranger forced into a life or death struggle against Bigfoot. Sadly, that film never came about and we were forever denied the sight of the “Muscles from Brussels” kickboxing Sasquatch. On the plus side, it looks like Van Damme is finally set to enter the world of horrordom with a new fright flick called The Breed. Exactly what he’ll be kickboxing remains to be seen.

Arrow in the Head reports that at this year’s Cannes Film Festival, Van Damme, who may be on the verge of a career resurgence following the surprisingly well received JCVD, had the following to say about two upcoming projects.

This summer I will make a new movie with a famous director called WEAPON. After that I will make a horror movie called THE BREED. It’s a great story, great script with true emotion. I want to show the fans I am transferable. I wanted to make a horror movie a few years back but the script was weak and had no direction.

BREED is different; it’s set in a village where strange things happen …………………. You know, let the movie speak for itself!”

From the sounds of things this won’t be the typical Van Dammage kickfest. Not sure if that’s a good or bad thing. Yeah, JCVD proved Van Damme does have some depth. On the other hand, something tells me his upcoming Universal Soldier: The Next Generation will be a slide back into his direct-to-DVD malaise. Definitely going to have to keep you posted on that one.

Speaking of aging action heroes looking to boost their sagging careers with genre flicks, did you hear that story about Steven Seagal wanting to do a third Under Siege film involving aliens and Area 51? I would give anything to see Seagal do that arm whip/arm snap combination on a grey alien. Alas, like Van Damme hurricane kicking Bigfoot’s head off, it will most likely remain a b-movie lover’s pipe dream.
