Elizabeth Banks to Direct Thriller COCAINE BEAR About Bear Who Does Tons of Cocaine

Once upon a time, Radio Silence (Ready or Not, Scream) was set to direct a bear-centric thriller about a bear who does tons of cocaine called Cocaine Bear. Now it looks like Radio Silence is out and Slither star turned director Elizabeth Banks is in.

The exact plot details are being kept under wraps – but come on.

Cocaine Bear is inspired by events that took place in Kentucky in 1985. NY Times first reported the true story about a 175-pound black bear that eats a duffle bag filled with more than 70 pounds of cocaine dropped from an airplane by a drug smuggler. Jimmy Warden penned the untitled spec script.

Phil Lord and Chris Miller will produce the Universal thriller. Aditya Sood will also produce with Brian Duffield, Banks, and Max Handelman. Matt Reilly and Christine Sun will oversee on behalf of Universal. The film is eyeing a summer shoot date.

No idea what this means for Elizabeth Banks’s Invisible Woman movie. But we do know that film is penned by The Girl on the Train writer Erin Cressida Wilson based on an original pitch by Banks. Banks will also produce with Max Handelman and Alison Small who executive produces. Plot specifics are under wraps, but it’s been stressed Banks’ film will have no connection to Leigh Whannell’s The Invisible Man.
