One thing greatly missing from modern genre filmmaking is kid-friendly horror. I’m not talking about PG-13 mall-horror, but films geared toward younger audiences that can be enjoyed by both adults and children. We had The Gate and The Monster Squad in the 80s. What do today’s kids have?

Halo-8 Entertainment has unveiled the DVD box art for its upcoming film In a Spiral State, the metaphysical, psychedelic, drug-addled sci-fi/horror film directed by award-winning filmmaker Ramzi Abed. The film comes to DVD on September 29th and is now available for pre-order.

There's not a horror fan out there who's not intrigued by the prospect of real cases of things that go bump in the night. Sometimes said things can come in some really unexpected places. At least that seems to be the story from those associated with the brand new production of Box of Shadows, which is currently filming in LA.

I've got a wacky idea. Indie horror filmmakers Ulli Lommel and Michael Feifer should have a fight, and only the winner is allowed to make any more movies based on the exploits of real-life serial killers. I'd be cheering for Feifer, if only because he at least attempts to make actual movies.

College kids just never learn. They're always messing around where they shouldn't and wind up getting themselves and their friends killed. The students in the upcoming Box of Shadows seem destined for the same fate.
