Hunter ParrishEven though Showtime’s “Weeds” has long jumped the shark (yet, for some strange reason we continue watching), there’s no doubt that there’s a lot of talent associated with the show. Especially in Hunter Parrish, who plays the eldest son who just wants a semi-normal life. There could be some very bright days ahead of him, too.

According to E! Online Parrish may be really close to landing the lead role in the upcoming Hunger Games movie. If signed, he’d star opposite the recently confirmed Jennifer Lawrence to take on the role of Peeta Mellark in the futuristic flick.

Set in post-apocalyptic America, the movie will introduce heroine Katniss Everdeen (Lawrence), a self-sufficient 16-year-old who lives in District 12, one of the poorer districts in the nation of Panem, what used to be known as North America before its utter destruction several years earlier. Katniss becomes a participant in the Hunger Games, an annual televised tournament where one boy and one girl from each of the nation’s twelve districts must fight to the death until only one competitor, or “tribute,” is left standing.

Look for the Gary Ross directed flick in theatres on March 23, 2012.
