‘The Simpsons’ Treehouse of Horror Now Spoofs Edward Gorey, ‘The Ring’ and ‘Parasite’

No one is safe from the Treehouse of Horror. Not even Oscar-winner Bong Joon-ho, who gets namedropped in a Parasite-themed segment on the next episode of The Simpsons.
The annual spooky event is now thirty-two years in the running with this Sunday’s Treehouse of Horror XXXII. The Halloween episode will be spoofing a variety of different properties, including Disney’s Bambi (uh oh) and horror classic The Ring.
The episode airs on Sunday, Oct. 10th at 8 pm on Fox.
In the Parasite-themed segment, The Simpson family finds themselves surviving in a dingy underground apartment, desperate for a change of lifestyle.

This year’s Halloween episode also pays tribute to Edward Gorey’s picture book The Gashlycrumb Tinies. The original story details the terrible ends for 26 different unfortunate children. TOH segment The Telltale Bart will instead use the alphabet to tell of 26 different ways Bart has been bad. This eventually includes Bart killing his family…
Edward Gorey’s work usually took place in spooky Edwardian settings, although they often also feature cats. His other picture books include The Doubtful Guest, The unstrung harp, or, Mr. Earbrass writes a novel, and The Hapless Child.
The Telltale Bart was even featured in a ComicCon panel this past summer. There’s a lot going down in the short segment, with horror references galore. The animators have paid true homage to American surrealist Edward Gorey by successfully using his highly distinct style to draw the chapter.
