April’s programming shows an impressive amount of horror on Netflix, which arrives throughout the month. The streamer is adding Split and Glass for the M. Night Shyamalan fans. They are continuing to feed the true crime crowd with documentaries like The Asunta Case and Crime Scene Berline: Nightlife Killer. However, the app seems to be focused on action-packed thrillers more than anything this April. They are adding tons of titles, bridging the gap from The Matrix Collection to Rebel Moon: Part Two: The Caregiver. While there are plenty of cool options in this lineup I have my eye on a few new shows I’ve been dying to check out. These five shows all seem to have a ton of promise and cover almost all of my favorite subgenres.

Without further ado, I present the five thrilling new Netflix series that are my picks for this first full month of spring.

Brigands: The Quest for Gold: Season 1

An unhappy but wealthy woman leaves her life behind to embark on a dangerous treasure hunt in the 19th century. I did not expect to have a 6 episode Italian epic on my list of things I need to see ASAP, but here we are. Maybe the idea of a woman running off into the unknown to start fresh is what is striking a chord with me. That sounds like a great plan to me as a woman currently stuck in the Midwest. I am ready to support the protagonist in any possible crimes, murders, etc. If you are also intrigued by this title, you will be happy to know it hits Netflix on April 23, so our wait is almost over.

Dead Boy Detectives

Two teen ghosts who solve supernatural crimes alongside a clairvoyant find themselves up against a powerful witch. Aside from a badass title and being a supernatural detective show, this series is based on characters from the DC comics by Neil Gaiman and Matt Wagner. I am also excited because there are familiar names in the writers’ room, like Joshua Conkel (Chilling Adventures of Sabrina). I am hoping Netflix still plans to drop all eight episodes on April 25 because I have never been a patient woman, and I want to binge this right now.

The Hijacking of Flight 601

Two flight attendants try to outwit their captors on a hijacked plane. I’m mostly here because I have been looking for another thriller in the sky since accidentally binging Hijack on Apple TV+ last year. I did not know this was a subgenre I was missing, but now that I do, I want more. I am especially interested because this series is based on real events and has two women driving the action. This Spanish thriller might just become my new personality.

Parasyte: The Grey

Humanity finds itself battling against a parasite that consumes human hosts. I have had my eye on this live-action adaptation of the manga series Parasyte by Hitoshi Iwaaki for a few months. Few things in life spark as much joy as South Korean horror, so mixing that with sci-fi for a series seems like great math to me. I am beyond ready to see this deadly threat from outer space wreak havoc in this series.

Ripley

In the 1960s, a wealthy man hires a grifter and unwittingly sets in motion a chain of events that leads to fraud and murder. This psychological thriller stars Andrew Scott as Tom Ripley. Because I have no interest in watching Matt Damon in The Talented Mr. Ripley, I am excited to finally see this story unfold with a strong actor. I will be watching on April 4 to see if these eight episodes make me feel alive again.
