Horror Comedy
It's been a while since last there was anything to report on Danielle Harris' latest project, Among Friends, but some really good news has just floated into our offices!
Fans of "Flight of the Conchords" will be happy to hear that one half of the team, Jermaine Clement, could be teaming with writer/director Taika Waititi for a new vampire comedy. Sink your teeth into the news right here.
It seemed a natural fit scheduling a DVD release the same week as Wrestlemania for a movie designed like a pro wrestling PPV about monsters stepping into the ring to fight each other with a cast that includes several well-known names from the world of pro wrestling. Unfortunately, that March release date just marched all the way back to the summer.
Weird things can happen purely by accident. You know what we're talking about... pick up a book, read aloud, and boom! plague of locusts. Yeah, that can suck, but you know what sucks more? Accidentally getting dragged to hell.
Monster movies. You can never have enough of them, and we've been excited about Grabbers, starring Richard Coyle (Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time), Ruth Bradley (Flyboys), and Russell Tovey ("Being Human" UK), since we first mentioned it many months ago. The first clip has slithered online, and as always we have it for you here.
So what if the NFL playoffs are taking place? Zombies don't care about football! As some counter-programming, indie zombedy Detention of the Dead has unleashed its official trailer, and of course we have it right here.
Somewhere in the middle of all of the holiday madness of 2011, The Foywonder reported that
Monster Brawl (review here) would be hitting DVD in March of this year. As a quick follow-up to that tasty nugget of news, the official artwork has come our way! Dig it!
Though it's still a bit of a mystery to us how the teenage saga of beastiality and necrophilia known as The Twilight Saga ever became so popular in the first place, we are happy about one thing ... the spoofs.
Helmed by Jon Wright and penned by Kevin Lehane, the creature feature Grabbers, starring Richard Coyle (Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time), Ruth Bradley (Flyboys), and Russell Tovey ("Being Human" UK), is looking to make its premiere at this year's Sundance Film Festival, and we've got a new still to getcha going.
When there's no more room in hell, the dead will go to detention. That's the premise, well sort of, for the latest indie zombedy, Detention of the Dead, and we've got your first look at the teaser trailer right here.
It's been a long time since last we dined on death with the new slasher flick Panman, but some new artwork and a trailer (both marinated in a fine mixture of carnage, torment, and insidious devilry) have just come across our plates! Dig in!
Not all zombies are bad. Hell, we've met a few over the years who were quite nice ... Bub, Fido, etc. Well, you can now add Harold to the ever growing list of cuddly cadavers, and we've got new artwork and a still to show you just how friendly he is!
The horror-comedy. Perhaps the most difficult sub-genre of film to perfect. Most attempts at horror-comedy don't come off well. Either they're too scary without enough comedy or (more frequently) mostly humor with not enough horror. A lot of times they just come across as trying too hard and cheesy. But every once in a while a movie gets it just right. And when that happens, audiences embrace and celebrate the brilliant and elusive successful horror-comedy.
It seems only appropriate that with next year’s Wrestlemania slated for April Fool’s Day, a motion picture like Monster Brawl, starring several personalities from the world of professional wrestling that is patterned after a wrestling pay-per-view but with monsters stepping into a ring to fight it out, would get released on DVD the same week.
Do you like zombies? Do you enjoy having a laugh? Well, if the term “zombedy” doesn’t prompt you to roll your eyes in disgust, then you’ll be glad to hear that the Pierce Brothers’ entertaining and well-received horror/comedy romp
DeadHeads (review here) will be roaming onto DVD and Blu-ray in the UK on January 2nd, 2012, courtesy of G2 Pictures. Check out the trailer right here!
