Exclusive: Writer Talks Home Sick DVD!

Home Sick DVD!It’s been almost six years since Adam Wingard (“>Pop Skull) completed work on his directorial debut, the Alabama-set survival horror piece Home Sick. Since then it’s played all over the place in varying degrees of completion before the final, definitive version was shown at last year’s Fantasia Film Festival. Finally on August 26th, 2008, we’ll be able to see if it was worth the wait when Synapse Films gets Home Sick on DVD.

Home Sick writer/producer E.L. Katz dropped us a line yesterday with word on what fans can expect from the long-gestating DVD which he just got his hands on a few days ago, ”There are three shorts on there that we did after the several-year Home Sick production recovery” he told us, “The Girlfriend” (the second short we did), is practically a half hour long and one of our first experiments doing something straight-forward and less silly and goretastic. It had to do with doppelgangers. It’s rough, but it was the beginning of a new direction in our style, and actually has some atmosphere to it.

“Laura Panic”, and “1000 Year Sleep”, are two short films that played this year’s Fantasia Fest to great acclaim. They were done several years later and showed a huge maturity in our filmmaking skills. They balance creepiness with a touch of black humor.”

Other than the early work of Home Sick’s creators, there’s also some great behind-the-scenes featurettes that should help illustrate what these guys have been going through for the last six years, ”There’s a killer mini-documentary showing director Adam Wingard’s mind state after the turbulent production” Katz continued, ”probably one of the most personal and schizophrenic featurettes I’ve ever seen. Adam and I also recorded a commentary that was very forthcoming about the shit we went through during the making of the film. If, like most people, you scratch your head after watching the flick, this will probably clear up some of your questions.”

There’s also an interview with Bill Moseley with some behind the scenes footage and a look into the man’s acting process, an incredibly long scene that was cut from the final film, and some very cool insert art done by comic artist and all around badass Nat Jones.

”Don May and Michael Felsher (Red Shirt Pictures) did amazing work on this,” Katz concluded. ”after such a long road it’ll be great that people can finally watch this thing. Zombi’s (relapse artists) score can be heard in all its glory, and Jonathan Thornton’s grisly FX work can finally splatter the screen!”
