A Wasco, California man is accused of removing a severed limb from the scene of a fatal train crash and then gnawing on the appendage.

27-year-old Resendo Tellez was arrested late last month on charges of removing human remains from a location other than a cemetery. Tellez faces additional charges, including a felony charge related to a violation of probation terms and a misdemeanor for possession of drug paraphernalia.

Jose Ibarra, an Amtrak employee working near the scene of the crash, spoke with CBS affiliate KBAK about the horrifying ordeal. “I’m not sure from where, but he walked this way and he was waving a person’s leg,” Ibarra told the outlet. “And he started chewing on it over there, he was biting it and he was hitting it against the wall and everything. On the leg, the skin was hanging. You could see the bone.”

Tellez allegedly removed the severed limb from the scene of a tragic accident that resulted in at least one death. It is currently unclear if the limb Tellez is accused of removing from the scene is that of the deceased or belongs to someone else injured in the unfortunate ordeal.

KBAK (and several other news outlets) published a censored video of the suspect where he appears to be chewing on the limb in question. Seeing as Tellez is facing charges for possession of drug paraphernalia, one has to wonder if narcotics were a factor in the events seemingly depicted in the disturbing footage.
