It’s been a busy Friday the 13th weekend, and some of the more interesting news to come out of it has been saved for the last day! Friday the 13th: The Franchise fansite caught up with creator Sean S. Cunningham during New Jersey’s Monster-Mania convention, who dropped some new details.

The site reports that Cunningham has “confirmed interest from The CW in regards to pickup for the TV show.” He reportedly said that the basic premise of the series will focus on the “REAL” city of Crystal Lake and the effect that the serialized films had on its “real life” counterpart. This allows them to reimagine Jason in a more grounded reality, as the films would be based off the real life killings that took place at the Camp (which was inspired by Camp No-Be-Bo-Sco in Blairstown, New Jersey) with both the hockey-masked Jason and a more serious backwoods-inspired killer making appearances throughout. A very Meta approach, if you will.

It is worth noting that while there are The Crystal Lake Recreation Area Camp Grounds located in the San Gabriel Mountains in Azusa, California, the Crystal Lake town the series will introduce is entirely fictitious.

Stay tuned.
