That's part of the conceit of the book. To try to drive people mad.

It kinda bored me. I left it unfinished, halfway through. Although, I did find the concept interesting and the little tricks they did in the publishing and printing were cool...it just, was kind of dull.

And, I wanted to like it...as, I really dig his sister, the musician POE. Her album "HAUNTED" is a musical trip into a haunted home. If you never listened to it, or read about it...it's probably the best 'concept album' that you never have heard of. Lots of it even ties into his book.

He perfomed a live spoken-word piece when I saw POE live in concert, a prelude to her song "Hey Pretty"...you can hear it on the "Drive-By" mix of that song, although I hear the live improv version is a bit more explicit. Very cool stuff, and the dude can write...but, maybe I'll wait awhile before I attempt to return to "House of Leaves". Seemed like an ambitions first swipt at a book, but with just one too many little tricks up the sleeve.
