I said it before and I'll say it again ...

to my absolute shock and awe, this flick is right up there on my most anticipated list.

If everything I've heard is true it's gonna make the original look like Cry_Wolf!

Joe Lynch fucking rocks, and so does his trailer. I'm absolutely stoked to see this.

While it wasn't great I still enjoyed the first. We'll just have to see with this one.

He's done some music videos, worked for G4 for a while, but this is his first full-on directing gig.

The other answer is; he's a badass. Seriously. Biggest geek you'll ever want to meet.

I read the review. With Rollins in it, there's no doubt it will be a good time. When I heard that the Leprechaun 2 writers wrote this, I was a little worried.

It was a blast all the way through. I would have given it 4 out of 5 though.

Shit ghost!

He's also a damn fine actor. Wink

And with that said, I FINALLY saw WT2.

I realize I'm partially biased, but everything aside, I enjoyed the shit out of this movie. After Halloween, this was a breath of fresh air.

Better than the original and the best DTV sequel ever.

I saw the first scene at the Burbank Fango con and I loved it. Loved it loved it loved it. It looked FANTASTIC. On top of that Joe Lynch was a very cool guy. He is a genuine genre fan, he fucking loves it and it's pretty clear when you meet him. His enthusiasm is almost addicting.

So after being SOOOOO excited to see this, I finally, FINALLY got to sit down and watch it at home.

I felt like I met the hottest chick on the planet only to find out she's got a dick swinging between her legs.

Joe Lynch, sorry bro, the kills are still awesome. The gore and blood are fan-fucking-tastic, A++ on that end. Joe Lynch is very good at pointing a camera at an awesome bloody mess. The shots, the gore, the edits, that's all great, and I mean that. My problem is that the story fucking blows. its full of holes, and it's very distracting. Joe Lynch didn't write this so it's not like it's a knock on him, but god damn is the story bad.

I didn't believe any of it. The setting, the situation, nothing. And then the characters were awful, awful, awful, also very distracting. At first I thought it was ok, I didn't like the characters so i couldn't wait for them to die off. However, you can't kill everyone off right away, so within a half hour I had had all I could stand of them, and decided to simply turn it off. I finished it the next day, refreshed.

I know taking shots at the story and acting / characters in a horror movie is kind of cheap and easy, but I don't see why you can't polish a few things to smooth out the kinks. Murder Party is a good example of good, believable (and still satirical / stereotypical) characters that managed to carry the (slow) story and entertain me until the real meat and potatoes kicked in. (However Murder Party is far from perfect too, but that's a whole other discussion).

I won't get into specifics, but awesome gore or not, the story needs to move fluidly, not slam me into table corners. I don't think it's wrong to have standards. I hate apologizing for movies, and I don't think being subject to shitty dialog is very fun. Imagine the god damned editor, hearing these lines over and over and over and over again. How about having to put this movie together knowing the story is that janky.

Honestly, I'll probably watch it again still. It's not like it's as bad as the new Halloween or anything.

OK, I think I can discuss this without spoilers. But tread easy, I may...

------POTENTIAL (but probably not) SPOILERS-----------------------------------

HASHTHRASH (a good friend of mine in real life and my right arm in Nightmare Alley) mentioned one thing that definately made me go "Hmmmm."

It's a pilot they are shooting. But they are disorganized as hell. And still have a 100k prize? Well, I was able to just kind of roll with it when FT13pt2 came out and suddenly Jason was walking the streets hunting down Adrienne King. I can just say "fuck it" hahaha. It's a Fulci state of mind!

But yeah, imo I really didn't mind the characters. The actors did a fine job and played to the conventions all very well. And yes, after finally seeing it I still say HATCHET and WRONG TURN 2 are the gore films to see this year.

------END POTENTIAL SPOILERS---------------------------------------------------

Well, if it's just the gore that's needed to make the movie fun, why bother with the story portion? Why not just jerk off over the most awesome bloody pile of meat people can create? Why not make this movie a wall to wall blood feast? And if gore is what we are after, why bag on torture porn movies for delivering the simple and visceral bloodletting?

I think the challenge lies in crafting a story and characters that propel you along, as I said, while still delivering a fun and juvenile river of blood and guts. Hey, maybe even bring some actual tension and fear into it, too.

I guess I wanted Joe to make something more than an awesome looking B movie.

Here were some specific plot / character gripes

**** POTENTIAL SPOILERS *****

Sean is right. It hit me quick. This is a reality show pilot, shooting an abridged version of a survivor styled show. Yet this 5 day pilot has a $100,000 prize. Hmm. So a show with that much money behind it has a crew of 3? One editor, one director, and one producer for a 5 day show, with cameras rolling at all times? Oh, and the hotshot director is also a cameraman? The only cameraman even? Everyone is wearing cameras, too, and there are 35 cameras set up in the woods. There were 2 techs that set those cameras up, they didn't see any sign of this family? The didn't step in any bear traps? And nobody saw this family at all while scouting the location? I imagine they scouted the area before getting the permits and insurance and such in order, right? Because a show with a $100,00 purse would have done all that, right?

So we have a director / cameraman, and his girlfriend the producer. Wow. Mind = blown. Then we have the editor. They kill the editor quickly, because they are nothing but trouble Wink

Henry Rollins is simply unbelievable and pretty much comes off non threatening on camera. Muscles and Black Flag history don't make someone scary. So a military guy couldn't secure the perimeter properly before trying to rescue that dude and girl? Nope. Not buying it.

Hey, back to that couple HR rescues. Before that, Rollins blows up those two mutants, yet that doesn't attract the attention of the others. Cut to the captive couple, and the girl is falling asleep, despite the explosion!

the whole cast and crew other than Henry are all the same age and super good looking as well. MIND = DONE BEEN BLOWN LONG AGO AINT NUTHIN LEFT TO BLOW

Still, this has nothing, and I mean NOTHING on how bad the dialog and characters on Halloween.
