Here's a reminder to anyone interested: Ring of Death (aka Death Match) will premiere on Spike TV tomorrow night, Friday 10/17, at 10:00pm. It's billed as an "Original Spike Guy Movie,” and will be shown in HD.
Although Spike will probably cut the titty scenes, the violence will still be gloriously intact. Check out the eventual unrated DVD for the version with the naked stripper chicks, if you must. I haven't seen this cut, so it will be new to me. I'm wondering if they shot alternate clothed sequences, or if they'll just cut around the naked ladies, or will they blur them out. Looking forward to finding out.
If you watch it, be sure to let us know what you think!
Oh, and click HERE for a look at the cover of the Japanese DVD of Ring of Death. The box makes it look like it's been retitled (again) as No Rules. Even better, the shitty artwork makes it look like an interracial gay porno. Fucking hilarious! Order now! Operators are standing by, jerking off. |

Is his wife, Catherine Oxenberg or whatever her name is, in this one as well?
Hey, either Casper makes these or he makes more of those bible-thumping propaganda films he made in the late '90s/earlier this decade. |
I think there's room to mix the two. In fact, I'm off this very second to write my bible-thumping ninja propaganda film. Just think of the possibilities of arming Jesus with ninja throwing stars. Hell yes! |
Yeah, it's that kind of mixture that Bibleman sorely missed. How much more fantastic would it have been had they left in the origin story where Wille Aimes is bitten by a radioactive Bible? |

I'm surprised it wasn't retitled Lock Up 2: Ted Turner's Revenge.

Franco, I've been a slacker. I haven't even seen Shark Swarm yet. Of the films out there, which best represents the finished product you guys wanted? Admittingly I'm not a big fan of TV movies. _________________ Jackie Guerrido Normas el Mundo! |

This is the one that's the closest to what we envisioned -- that being a balls-out Cannon film to be enjoyed with a sixpack and your buddies. RING OF DEATH (aka DEATH MATCH) originally started out as a quick rewrite gig, but when we read the original script, we knew that we'd be pretty much starting from scratch and doing a Page One Rewrite. The turnaround time was quick, and we spent around three weeks slaving away on it while getting very little sleep. Since we already had a start date, that meant that most of our stuff got in, with only a few minor changes and cuts.
This one also has graphic violence, profanity and a ton of (female) nudity.
Hope you like it! _________________ "According to witnesses, testimony and evidence...this massacre was the work of ninjas!" |

But what about the story man...the story. Leave it to Franco to come in and trash it all up.
I'm going to try to pick it up soon. I wish you guys the best really. _________________ Jackie Guerrido Normas el Mundo! |

I just watched it, and I noticed something that flashed by quickly. I freeze framed it to see if it said what I thought it said.
Right after Burke Wyatt talks to his kid over the phone in prison, the next scene shows the introduction to the next cage match.
There is a TV monitor that shows both fighters and their stats.
Burke Wyatt
Height: 6-9'
Weight: 190 lbs
There is no way that Messner was 6 foot 9.
Was this a mistake by the filmmakers? Or was it intentional, to maybe trick the people who were betting on the fight? |

Just got done watching it. Cliched, predicable story, no big twists or revelations, no real character progression or development, nudity for nudity's sake and big, bloody fights. The 80's called, they want their movie back.
But you know what? I was completely entertained throughout. Great pacing, solid acting, not a plothole in sight ( that I could see anyway), and the highlight of the evening, dialog that didn't make me cringe like so many of our other 80's action movies. Stacy Keach going bonanners was great to watch, as was Messner laying the smackdown on Jason Voorhees himself!
All in all, better than I thought it would be. One of these days I'll try to watch the rest of Shark Swarm, I promise. |
