Brutal Legend, Ghostbusters, more dropped by Activision
Publisher passes on a slew of Vivendi Games' in-development titles; 50 Cent, World in Conflict: Soviet Assault, Wet also affected.
By Brendan Sinclair, GameSpot

Earlier today, Activision Publishing announced a streamlining of its Vivendi Games operations, saying it would be bringing into the fold five of that company's franchises: Crash Bandicoot, Spyro the Dragon, Ice Age, Prototype, and one unannounced game.

An Activision representative later confirmed for GameSpot that those would be the only Vivendi Games franchises coming out of the publisher. That leaves a number of high-profile projects in limbo, including Double Fine Productions' Brutal Legend, as well as Wet, Ghostbusters, Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena, World at Conflict: Soviet Assault, 50 Cent Blood on the Sand, Zombie Wranglers, Leisure Suit Larry: Box Office Bust, as well as several Xbox Live Arcade titles.

"The only franchises that Activision Publishing will release are based on Crash Bandicoot, Ice Age and Spyro, as well as Prototype and one other game that has not yet been announced," the representative said. "We are reviewing our options regarding those titles that we will not be publishing."

Activision Blizzard has other publishing arms like Blizzard Entertainment and Activision Value that were not covered by the press release and could be among the options being reviewed. As of press time, representatives from those companies did not return requests for comment.

A scheduled Comic Con International panel on the Ghostbusters game was abruptly cancelled last week, with no explanation given to attendees.
However, the game was on the show floor in playable form.

This really doesn't make much sense...It's not like Ghostbusters wasn't going to be a hit.

Yes, look at all those winners they are staying with:

Crash Bandicoot, Spyro the Dragon, Ice Age, Prototype, and one unannounced game

Smart move.

I'm really amazed how long it's been since anyone's talked about this, but now there's an all-new reason; a brand-new trailer!!

Well it's finally out, what do you guys think?
Me? Unfortunately, I was underwhelmed. It's nice to hear all the familiar voices and the graphics are pretty sweet, but so far the gameplay is a tad boring. Shoot ghost, trap ghost. It plays a little like a third-person fishing game, and while it's a novel idea, it grows stale pretty fast. My opinion may very well change when (or if) it picks up, but as of now I'd be upset if I spent $60 on this one.

I'm still going to pick it up, along with the Ghostbusters blu-ray.

The game is a lot of fun, however a few glitches and bugs here and there make for some shit playing. But over all the game is a blast.

Played about two hours. Lots of fun. There are several game mechanic issues but it sounds nitpicky to get into them. But really - so far I immensly enjoy shooting and trapping ghosts. And of course destorying the shit out of everything I can. What fun to destory the Sedgewick.

Loved playing it through, twas a real pleasure having all the original gang's voices back.

However, the multiplayer is...lacking. Just catch ghosts and move on. Which made me realize that it's just not that replayable. The fun part about it is the story, and that's about it. I kind of wish I had just made this a rental because I doubt I'll be playing it again any time soon. Unless of course there is a big ghostbuster dread central team.

BuzJob is my gamertag for 360, let me know if you guys want to schedule a weekend ghost hunting game.

So far, enjoying it a lot. Haven't dabbled in multiplayer yet. Probably won't hit that till I'm through with the single-player career. VERY impressed by the amount of depth.
