I just got this DVD and watched it for the first time.
HOLY SHIT!!
This movie has the coolest death scene I have ever seen in any horror movie EVER!
When I saw the shotgun through the windshield death scene, I sat up saying WOAH! and started applauding. I have never done that with a horror movie before.
I wasn't too sure about Joe Spinell in the lead role. But he did a good job, and he really sold the part when he was on his killing spree.
The documentary of Joe Spinell on the DVD is also tops, especially the home video footage where Joe Spinell and his friend are with Steven Spielberg as the 1976 Academy Award nominations are read, and Spielberg is devestated when he doesn't get nominated for Best Director for Jaws.
Awesome DVD. Highly recommended. Tom Savini has amazing effects in this movie, and is fun to listen to on the commentary.

Tom Savini did a great job on the gore effects in this one( he always does actually). I really liked this 80´s cheesefest. It was quite brutal and quite different from other 80´s slasher films. That death scene you mention( Savini himself is the victim if i remember correctly) is really cool.

Gritty, raw and laced with a urban realism that gets under your skin. One of the classics of the 80's.

People trashed this movie as being a misogynistic, nihilist's wet dream, but there's a lot of layers to Spinelli's roll that was lost on critics back in the early 80's.

I think the only movie that touches it for urban decay, both physically, emotionally, and mentally, was Taxi Driver.

I really have to get that DVD sometime.

Yeah, I bought this DVD a while back after consulting some of the folks here. I remembered seeing it when I was pretty young, and the only scene that really stuck with me was the manaquins coming alive at the end. So after seeking the advice of some trusted horror experts here, I ordered it.

Man am I glad that I did. Great flick!

One of the best DVD's out there-loaded with compelling extras.

Can someone help me find the original song "Maniac" written about the movie?
He's a maniac, maniac that's for sure, He will kill your cat and nail him to the door.

Yeah,it was pretty grimey here back then(not much better now! Rolling Eyes Laughing).I used to hang out by the parking lot where Tom Savini gets his head blown off.
