Wil Wheaton's grandfather starred in "Wagon Train" (1957), so Wil's grandmother asked that Wagon Train somehow be worked into the dialogue, and it was.

I like how they did this scene with Chris saying what really happened with the milk money.

I always liked this thing about the deer. It's one of those things that technically doesn't have to do with anything but it's a nice moment for the character. Something that usually gets cut out in "bigger" movies if it doesn't move the plot.

In an interview by Stephen King in the special features of the DVD he reveals that the scene with the leaches actually did happen to him, when he has a child.
