It was just a matter of time until someone played the race card over this.

A) It's a trailer.

B) She says "the fact that this video game is marketed to children and young adults. Start them young… fearing, hating, and destroying Black people."

It's not marketed to children, you dumb cow. Another Jack Thompson methinks.

That's pretty much general consensus everywhere I read.

I am forced to agree with this article, and demand that Capcom change this to a white man gunning down nothing but white, male zombies in Africa. Failing this, a representation of every ethnicity throughout the world must be represented in this game. In Africa.

Seriously, be outraged about the lack of developed nation support for the situation in Darfur, not that a video game has Africa populated by black people.

No, they wouldn't do that because that would be the sensible thing to do. And we all know these fucking people have their heads lodged up their asses.

I object, where were the supports for all those zombies who have been cut down over previous RE games? I demand that all zombies character models be changed to fat emo girls who recite bad poetry and toss Blood and Chocolate DVDs at you.

I hope this leads to RE changing all infected humans into men in furry costumes or child molesters. Give us something we really want to blow away.

I commented. Of course my comment will remain unapproved because the pussies have to OK it first.

This just turns my stomach.

But the point isn’t to smack one more label on mainstream video games (violent, sexist, racist). The point is that—for this white girl, at least—the Resident Evil 5 trailer is strangely disturbing.

the above seems to state what the author of the article was trying to say...and this was part of my response to plagiarize:

... All this article brings into question is the very relevant idea that race DOES play a major role in society (globally) and because of the history of exploitation in Africa one would be smart to question the game makers choices here. As this article seems to do...

The moment our hero starts using racial slurs, encounters racial stereotypes and is goosestepping through the streets is when this game will become bothersome.

waiting until things are as blatant as that would be a mistake...but this whole thing is really quite silly.

I can actually see where they're coming from - it's more the... dehumanized depiction of the Somalian villagers than anything else. Perhaps they'll include a local help character like the Johnny Depp lookalike in RE4 to alleviate it, though that still wouldn't totally mitigate the rather "colonialist adventure" feel of it.

Of course, had it been set in post-Soviet Russia only the occasional Russian would probably complain.
