I think Kubrick tried for that ending but she wouldn't go for it.

Where was this hotel actually located? It looked sooooo much like a place I stayed in the Catskills once.

The Timberline Lodge on Mt. Hood in Oregon was used for the front exterior, but all the interiors as well as the back of the hotel were specially built at Elstree Studios in London, England. The management of the Timberline requested that Stanley Kubrick not use 217 for a room number (as specified in the book), fearing that nobody would want to stay in that room ever again. Kubrick changed the script to use the nonexistent room number 237.

heh heh heh...

Another funny story...

I was recently sequestered on a jury for a murder trial. There was a woman in 217 at the holiday inn. I was like "OH SHIT!" and she looked at me! I was like, if you go in there and there's evil twins, an old lady with her skin falling off in the shower, a guy in a bear suit getting ready to engage in fellatio OR Jack Nicholson, Stay the F*** away lady!"

She had nightmares that night.

LMFAO!
