This is something I used to do, kind of stopped doing to build up my DVD collection, now I've come back to it. I collect soundtracks from horror/sci-fi/fantasy films that I really liked or a favorite Group/composer such as: Goblin, Ennio Morricone, Howard Shore, etc. Right now, I'm tracking down some soundtracks to some "giallo" horror movies that Morricone scored. Anyone else collect soundtracks?

What I can actually find without having to pay import prices I pick up. I have a bunch of Italian soundtracks, Friday the 13th, Nekromantik, Halloween, a few Fulci tribute CD's and more.

I try to, but generally rare soundtracks are hard to find on CD (or Vinyl) here. Even though my The Warriors LP looks great on the wall... Wink

I compensate that by having around 2 gigs of soundtracks on the computer instead. Smile

Thankfully, I have a huge soundtrack collection. Import, foreign.

I like it better sometimes than listening to a "band."

Hear-hear. For a few years, I listened mostly to movie scores, although I made plenty of time for my favorite metal bands.

That said, my soundtrack collection is slightly anemic. My favorites, though:

Jay Chattaway - Maniac. That's a New York Pizza...although it's covered with blood.

Goblin - Suspiria. Of course. I like the stuff that didn't make the movie, the really funked-out tracks.

Claudio Simonetti - Opera. A beautiful, haunting main theme, plus a few speed metal tracks by some band.

Riz Ortolani - Cannibal Holocaust. Another score that was only partially used. There's great stuff on this album, and only a little of it is in the movie.

The Vampire Sound, Inc. - Vampyros Lesbos. Oh, baby. And you know, I still haven't seen the movie. I invite all of you to chastise me for this. I swear I'll get around to seeing the flick. As for now, this album is a huge influence on my own music.

Then there's the usual suspects, like Army of Darkness, the Carpenter scores, The Omen, some Freddy and Jason music, a few Star Trek and Star Wars albums, and...The Usual Suspects.

Danny Glover and Mel Gibson freak me out more than that black and white avatar with the weirdos.

Oh, and two amazing, unstoppable forces of nature gone amok: Silvestri's Predator and Poledouris's RoboCop. I love those movies, and I love their scores even more.

I definitely need some of those. The Phantasm and [/i]Evil Dead[/i] scores are anthemic.

I'm a big fan of soundtracks. The Japanese Evil Dead trilogy 3 disc collection is a great set. I don't remember what I paid, but it was worth it!

Lately, I've been tracking down weird stuff online, like the unreleased tracks from Kill Bill.

Here's a site with giallo samples. There's like 83 minutes of mp3 downloads there: http://www.angelfire.com/film/soundtrackgod/gialloindex.htm

For those of you who dig more ambient stuff, check out Tangerine Dream's soundtrack to a flick called Sorcerer.

And if you can, check out the movie as well.

One scene in Sorcerer was filmed at the church in Elizabeth NJ that I was married in.

The priest I grew up with, Father Peter, was actually in the movie.

He was the priest with the cigarette who wandered into the cellar after the robbery.
