Oops! I left off Big Love -- definitely in my Top Five when it's on.
And TDS and Colbert just go without saying. _________________ Can you feel the thirst?

Yeah, is it just me or is that show just AWESOME!!!
I actually made a conscious effort to tune into that one when it actually aired a few times. |

Forgot to mention The Daily show and Colbert. Also South Park and Robot Chicken. _________________ Insert that one line from that one movie from that one actor here. |

1. THE WIRE - Yes, it's better than BATTLESTAR GALACTICA. With Season 4, David Simon's complex and beautifully-written tour de force continues to be the single best drama ever produced for American television. It's a demanding show that requires strict attention and provides both intellectual and emotional payoffs better than most Oscar-calibre films.
2. BATTLESTAR GALACTICA - Still absolutely amazing, though there have been a scant few clunker episodes.
3. LOST - Season 2 really upped the ante, and the May finale was one of the most surreal television experiences since TWIN PEAKS. Season 3 continues the greatness.
4. THE SOPRANOS - Probably the best season since the original, and the Gay Vito storyline was both poignant and sad.
5. THE SHIELD - Adding Forrest Whitaker to the mix really gave this one a shot in the arm. Absolutely cannot wait for Season 6.
6. BROTHERHOOD - Showtime's flagship show. I went into it expecting a SOPRANOS knockoff and was pleasantly surprised to enter a perfectly realized world of crime and politics. Plus, Annabeth Gish gets naked!
7. BLADE: THE SERIES - What began as a clumsy, poorly directed knockoff developed into a kickass tale of dupilicity and manipulation, puntuated by scenes of gutwrenching violence at a level rarely seen on TV.
8. LIFE ON MARS - Stellar surreal police drama in which a sensitive British cop finds himself tranported back in time to 1974. This is England's answer to LOST.
9. BIG LOVE - HBO strikes again with this unique and utterly fascinating polygamist family drama. It moved into dark territory toward the end of the season, and I'm looking forward to seeing Paxton and Stanton square off again in Season 2.
10. DEXTER - Love the premise, love Michael C. Hall, and completely loved the original novels on which it's based. That said, the writing has certainly had its ups and downs, and there's been quite a lot of laborious padding and repetition. Here's hoping they tighten it up next season.
Honorable Mentions:
RESCUE ME (the only reason this wasn't in the Top 10 is that it's so bleak and depressing that at points it became painful to watch)
MASTERS OF HORROR
SUPERNATURAL (completely agreed that the first season is better, though)
WEEDS
EXTRAS
