I didn't hear much about it when it was released - the one review on here is generally positive.

What do people on here think?

And is it out in paperback yet? I'm making my Xmas list for the folks to send stuff over to me.

And a paperback is alot lighter to ship than a HC.

I liked it a lot. There are some who didn't care for the 2nd half, but I thought it was great.

By page 15, Boston is burning. A helluva start to a book. It's an end of the world novel with King in charge. You can't compare it to his earlier stuff, because this book is different. There's no description after description that King is so well known for. Just fast paced action. Which is very unlike Mr King.

And no it's not in PB yet.

Yeah, I figured it was easy enough to answer my own question by actually looking. Checked out Amazon and sent a note to my folks. It'll be out before they need to send my package off, which means I'm going to be getting a new King novel for Xmas for the first time in ages.

*Dance with glee*

Starts off with a bang. Great premise, however, as the novel progresses, it loses its visceral begining momentum and pace, but definately worth reading if you are a King fan. Will be interesting to see how Eli Roth adapts this story.

Well I was in Seoul on the weekend and lo and behold, I came across the international version of Cell out on sale in paperback.

I caved. So much for Christmas.

A good read overall. Not really what I was expecting in the second half but interesting. The break-neck pace of the beginning replaced by an overwhelming feeling of dread in the second.

Raggedy Man....didn't really do much did he? I mean, there was never any particular scene where you really felt the characters were in "mortal" danger.

Probably my only complaint.

An enjoyable read, definitely something different from King. I did miss his flowery exposition a bit though.

8/10

Couldn't agree more with your thoughts, Bone Daddy.

I personally loved the first page of the book as much as the last. I'm a huge King fan and this (to me) is right up there with Carrie and IT. Yes it does lose steam but don't all post apocalyptic stories? Theres only so much ass ripping gore and terror that can happen before shit has to slow down.

I interpreted the Raggedy Man as a sort of foreshadowing agent. King does this a lot. The dreams in The Stand, the balloons in IT, its quite an M.O. of his.

Anyway, definitely an amazing book IMO, and I cannot FUCKING wait for Roth's silver screen adaption.

The hardcover will probably show up in the bargain bin any day now. I know we sent a shitload back after the pb came out.
