I tried GOW on my brother in law's 360 tonight. And I don't get the hype.

Sure, it looks *amazing*. Astounding even.

But it was pretty much another run of the mill shooter. Even the names they used were cliches.

And springing the badass out of prison and pairing him with a CO that doesn't like him? Ugh. They must have been watching every half baked action movie from the 1980s for the plot.

I can't think of a single thing that sets it apart from half a dozen other military squad type games I've already tried and disliked.

All that hype for something so.......average.

Yawn.

Hmmm, you may think it's lame but GoW caused an 80% rise in Live usage. Obviously quite a number of people love playing it online.

That's just it - I didn't say it was lame.

Just........average. Cliched is the word I'm looking for I think.

As for playing it online - so what?

What do you expect for an explanation about online play?

Hands down, GoW get's my vote for game of the year.

The story, the gameplay, the graphics, the mechanics are all top notch.

Not sure what you mean but I'm really, really, really tired of hearing "solo mode sucks but multiplayer is great".

Because that means that you've bought a half finished game.

The solo mode is *just* as if not more important than multiplayer/online play.

I don't play games online, I'm not interested in it.

I want to be able to sit down and enjoy a game on its solo player merits.

GOW's just weren't that good.

I have to second that emotion. I mean online play is great if you have a friend in another part of the country/world, but in general I like my multi-player to be in person. It is just more fun that way.

And I also like a good single player game. I just finished clocking in about 100 hours in FFXII (I know, I am a HUGE loser, but it turns out I am a huge loser one of whose broken PS2's miraculously came back to life (I knew there was a reason I never threw those things out, I just thought it was because I was waiting for a sledgehammer and warm weather)) and it was a very gratifying gaming experience. Now? I move on to Zelda.

I love multi-player games, but I feel that if they have a single player, it should not be half-assed. I have not played GoW (yet) so I do not know if that is the case, but I have also noted a trend of games watering down the single player but people saying online still makes it worth it.
