I'm surprised someone hasn't started a thread about this one yet.

This is an oral history of the Zombie War written by Max Brooks. The guy who wrote the Zombie Survival Guide.

It reads like a history book after the fact. A zombie infestation breaks out years ago and almost causes the extinction of the human race. Max interviews people from all over the world about their experiences. This book is the result.

I can't stop reading it. It's fantastic for all the zombie fans.

Could someone compare it to "Zombie Survival Guide"? While I got what he was trying to do in ZSG, I could not make myself like it. I liked parts of it, but any time he went on about the contagion I would roll my eyes thinking "I know this is supposed to be tongue in cheek, but the way he writes it makes me wonder." And with the reading I have to catch up on already, another book is only going to make the list on some strong recommendations.

Forget all about the survival guide. I, personally, couldn't read it. This is different.

Go to a bookstore and spend 5 minutes looking at it. You won't be sorry.

This sits at the bottom of my books to read pile in my spare room.

Why at the bottom? So it will motivate to get through some of the other stuff I have before I get to it.

I have three books to read before I buy this, so I definitely plan on getting to it very soon.

I bought it Thursday. I had to restrain from reading it in one sitting.

I'm pacing myself. Almost done. A gripping, superbly written novel.

It is so fucking awesome. Its so epic in what its telling that its hard to imagine the sheer magnitude of it all. I really like how he goes into the politics of prewar, and postwar governing. Makes it all the more interesting.

Indeed-Brook's meticulous eye for detail both in the 'real' and 'unreal' elevates this novel from a 'time-waster' to one of real thought.
