IGN.com has posted the pricing and release date (mid November) for Microsoft's HD-DVD addon drive for the 360.

I am glad MS didn't force HD-DVD on us the way PS3 is with Blu-ray. $200 isn't too bad for a new drive for those of us who purchased a 360 last year, but the question comes up again: do enough people even give a rat's ass about higher reslolution movies?

That sounds great to me. With LAND OF THE DEAD coming out on HD-DVD, with A SIDE FOR STANDARD DEFINITION AS WELL, that means I can sell my old copy without any fear of being able to take the new one wherever I go.

Also, keep in mind that the add-on is basically a USB device. If you're savvy, you can make or buy an adapter that will allow you to plug into your pc, if I've read my information correctly.

It's more then just slightly clearer. It's a big difference, depending of course on what you're watching it on.

I purchased myself the little beasty Sunday. The HD-DVD of King Kong was a nice little surprise and really showed off the power of the high def format and I was only running it at 720p.

I picked up two other titles, Batman Begins and Unleashed.

BB was nice a clear but didn't have the oomf I was looking for, neither did Unleashed. I have Fear and Loathing and The Thing on the way this week, those should be much more interesting.

Riddick should also be in my mailbox by the end of the month. I'll let you know.

Seeing as through there's no sign of a release date here in Australia I'll likely buy one from the US.

The HD-DVD format is supposedly region free, but standard DVDs are region locked. That doesn't bother me. I aleady have a good DVD player that's region free.

I hear THE THING is used from the same source material that the original DVD was but still looks great. My old DVD was non-anamorphic. A travesty.

Just so you know there is a legal hack to be able to use the drive on your pc. That is for people that don't have an xbox 360. http://news.teamxbox.com/xbox/12232/Legal-Hack-Makes-Xbox-360-HD-DVD-Drive-Work-on-PCs/
