I think you got that from the last episode where he told that to the therapist. He was just saying that.

yeah, he tells the therapist he hates blood,
and later we see the flashback so its pretty clear that it must be the reason why he does

No he just tells him that to throw him off. Every episode he mentions to himself how much he LOVES blood.

I'm gonna have to agree with lethaldread here. Dexter always gets a creepy little smile on his face when he's doing his blood work at a crime scene. It's one of the reasons why he creeps Doaks out so much.

I've got to agree with reno on this... Dexter doesn't lie to the shrink about anything aside from his real name and his reason for coming there. Aside from that, he's honest about every other aspect of his life, including his sex life and his need to be in control. I don't think he was lying about his hatred for blood.

And the doctor's insight into why Dexter chose blood spatter analyses (to catergorize and departmentalize it) is spot on. And the flashback, if it's sticking to the book (which it seems to be fairly quickly) backs that up.

Huh?

Dexter loves blood.

he has a fascination with blood but he doenst love it. remember his comments about blood when he saw the body in the pool in the first episode

No he thought that was facinating. Draining the blood from the body. Which he actually does himself by slicing the neck. Dex would like to try that to watch all the blood come out. That's why it was such a novel idea to him.

Well, yes and no.... Dex is fastidious... he is fascinated by blood but he doesn't like to dabble in it or anything. Bodily fluids, like emotions, make him uncomfortable. It's like sex.... it's not that he doesn't LIKE sex, but he doesn't like how MESSY sex is (and with the help of his two Doc's he's getting over that, slowly). Death is the same. It's not that he doesn't like killing... but he doesn't revel in the mess.

Thats fine and all but it doesn't mean he hates blood.

Every episode he has mentioned something about his love for blood. Shit even in the opening titles it shows all the little details that have to do with blood (from shaving accidents, to ham cutting, to making his fingers swell from cut off circulation.

And can someone pull an exact quote out from where he tells the therapist he hates blood. I've watched it twice now and I can't seem to find that portion of his therapy session.

Can someone post some of these quotes because I don't remember anything like that.

Well, that's definitely a point, but I think that's the shows marketing guys doing something for a cool opening than having anything to do with Dexter's likes and dislikes, honestly.

It's their second therapy session... (I'm rewatching OnDemand at this very second to quote it accurately) right after he sees the hidden camera. Meridian asks him how things are at work and then asks him what kind of forensics he does and he says blood spatter and Meridian replies "Most people can't stand blood" and Dexter says "I hate it". Meridian says "Catergorizing and analyzing it must be very soothing for you" and Dexter says "It is, actually."

Ah I see. I saw that as, "I hate my job"

As for the first part of quotes, I'm watching the first episode over again to get some.

But lets juts lookat it logically.

Dexter specializes in blood splatter. He loves looking at blood.

And how about this.....

HE COLLECTS THEIR BLOOD AS TROPHYS!

If he hated blood, if he really hated blood....would he really be specializing in blood splatter, and collecting his victims blood?

If you can answer that logically I'll drop it. But it doesn't make any sense to me otherwise.

"Blood: Sometimes it sets my teeth on edge.

Other times it helps me control the chaos. "

From the first episode.

Debra was a real bitch on this episode.

Barging in on Dexter's important weekend, and the whole DNA thing.

Everything was kind of off.

Rita was annoying.
Debra was a bitch.
And the Ice Truck Killer is actually quite annoying.

I'll consider it a relapse.

Is this where the new writers kicked in?

I don't know, but as far as Deb's character her bitchiness is straight out of the book... in fact, her character in the book was nearly completly unlikable, I thought. She was morose, bitchy, and all she cared about was being a cop - nothing else. They've really done an excellant job of fleshing out the secondary characters like Deb, La Guerta, Angel, Masouka and Doakes in the series.

I agree. It was a great sub-plot.

I think the new writers were more in keeping of the comedic angle. For example, you could really see the comedy when we see Dexter's first kill.

It was a very good episode, just not as good as the others. It felt off.
