| It's a journey of self-discovery. Much like puberty. |

That's why the last couple pages are stuck together. I was confused for a while. _________________ "Well, I do believe that it could have been, and it actually was, maybe, i think so, may ... yes, I do believe it was the boogey man!" - Creepy Loomis |

That's the exact OPPOSITE of this film. In fact, you're pretty much describing WTC.
United 93 is about as far from manipulative as it gets. There's no sweeping musical score...no big speeches....and no water-bottle Jesus ("Hi! I'm Christ, and I'm here to promote Aquafina!"). It's not designed to give you hope or lift your spirits. It's a simple dramatization designed to put you in the place of the passengers and make you forget you're watching a movie. And it works.
And what, pray tell, makes this film "pretentious?" Just curious... |

Um... everything you just described about it. It doesn't work. At all. It's a lazy, hack piece of filmmaking. A totally manufactured hallmark moment trying to pass itself off as "simple" so as not to appear manipulative (thus garnering the respect and admiration of every snivelling pseudo-intellectual in this country) whilst every character moment beats you over the fucking head and tugs at those "middle america" "family values" "apple pie" "this could be your mother, brother, father" type heart-strings. Fuck that. It's a sham. A gimmick. The gimmick being that you're not supposed to notice the gimmick, because it's supposedly not there. "Look, they even used the real people! How true to life!" Horseshit, I say. |
