You can't get any better than 'The Whisperer in Darkness.' The subterfuge these creatures use to fuck with the characters' heads? Creeeepy.

I love 'The Thing at the Doorstep,' and 'Shadow Over Innsmouth' as well.

Favorite big story/'novel' is "At The Mountains Of Madness". Though "Dunwich Horror" is right up there. Favorite short story is...crap, too many to decide. "Statement Of Randolph Carter", "The Outsider", Pickman's Model", "Cool Air"...

I really love The Crawling Chaos. I love the concept of going with this character to this strange place in a drug addled delerium.
The Shadow out of Time as well, for the same reason.
The Whisperer in Darkness and The Nameless City are favorites as well.
And, though it is hard to get over the extreme racist overtones, I happen to like The horror at Red Hook. If you take out Lovecraft's fear of brown people, its a solid story about a secret cult.

Shadow Over Innsmouth, The Colour out of Space, The Rats in the Walls, and From Beyond for me. Still have to read At the Mountains of Madness.

Call of Cthulhu. Classic.

And Mountains of Madness.

Oddly enough, del Toro might turn this into a movie.

Rejoice, Lovecraft fans.

My top five in no particular order: The Colour Out of Space, The Whisperer in the Dark, The Dreams in the Witch House, Charles Dexter Ward, and Call of Cthulhu.
