A pretty good list, the whole "seeing before you die" thing notwithstanding. Not too snobby, or too mainstream ... just a solid list of good movies across a variety of genres. I haven't seen:
A Bout de Souffle
Black Narcissus
All About Eve
The Searchers
The Ipcress File
This Sporting Life
And if they mean the 1932 Scarface (not the Pacino one) I haven't seen that one either. No rush though -- as long as I don't see these, I can't die ... right? |

Yeah, walking and killing a lot of monsters. Those are the ones. _________________ Can you feel the thirst?

Pink Flamingos? Eh, I'll pass on that one.
I also don't really get why Erin Brockovich and The Ladykillers is on there. |

Indeed. If you don't see a Kurosawa film before you die, consider your life wasted. |

They should have one quality adult film in the top 50 as well. I mean, as we're talking about, "before you die" and everything...
So to sum the thread so far, the list needs...
Kurosawa
LotR
Classic western (e.g., The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly)

What?!! That's silly. I loved that movie, but the last 15 minutes or so slightly ruined it all for me, or at least would prevent me from adding it on a "50 movies to see before you die" list. Platoon would have been a better choice.
I haven't seen some of the movies off the list yet, but I do know these really shouldn't be on the list at all:

5 Sexy Beast 12 Lost in Translation 19 Boyzn the Hood 22 Heavenly Creatures 24 Erin Brockovich 29 Pink Flamingos |
Here, I'll add some in place of those. How about:
Akira, Dr. Strangelove, Bladerunner, Office Space, The Matrix, Goodfellas |

I agree on the lack of Leone and Kurosawa.
I'm really surprised to not see LAWRENCE OF ARABIA on there, or DR. ZHIVAGO.
I also think ALL QUIET ON THE WESTERN FRONT, PATHS OF GLORY, and MARATHON MAN are must see. |

I was surprised to see that Blade Runner didn't make the list.
And, yeah, Kurosawa: Why no Kurosawa ? |

I was so glad Brazil was on that list. However, I could certainly pass on Princess Mononoke. I'd replace it with either Galaxy Express 999 or A Mouse and his Child. _________________ "Well, I do believe that it could have been, and it actually was, maybe, i think so, may ... yes, I do believe it was the boogey man!" - Creepy Loomis |
