Yes! Definitely check out THE PRESERVE! I read it about a month ago, and couldn't put it down.
Best debut novel I've read in the last 5 or 6 years, no shit . . . good, bloody, monster fun, and written like someone who's been working at his craft for decades.

Yeah, and considering MOTHER BITCHFIGHT is a collaboration with Edward Lee, you definitely can't go wrong!
I haven't read it personally, so I can't vouch for it, but you also might want to check out Craig Davidson's RUST AND BONE. Davidson is Patrick Lestewka's real name, and I understand that this is a *fantastic* short story collection. Several friends of mine who have read it highly recommended it. Supposedly it's not straight-out *horror*, per se, but plenty of the stories are hard-hitting and very, very dark.
