Distribution rights for Santiago Fernández Calvete's The Second Death (La segunda muerte) are to be offered for sale by Paris-based Reel Suspects S.A.R.L. at this year's European Film Market (EFM) in Berlin, which runs from February 9th to February 17th. The Argentine movie stars Agustina Lecouna, Mauricio Dayub, and Guillermo Arengo.

Here's a synopsis for The Second Death from Reel Suspects: "Alba Aiello, a young secretive homicide detective, moves to a small town, where, apparently, nothing ever happens. When various burnt corpses are found in a praying position in the middle of a field in strange circumstances, she starts investigating with the help of her assistant Fidel who she feels attracted to. The investigations seem to lead to nowhere, until the magician arrives in town, a strange child claiming to have the gift of seeing people's past when he touches their photograph. While the child reveals that his power is true by discovering Alba's dark secret, he starts gaining her trust and she starts believing in a paranormal explanation to the deaths. As the authorities press her into closing the investigation, and the local priest tries to persuade her that it is the devil's work, they unmask an unexpected and darker culprit..."

Here's a synopsis for The Second Death from Buenos Aires-based Magma Cine S.R.L., which produced the movie: "Alba Aiello, a skeptical and lonely 35 years old policewoman, lives in a small country village, trying to forget and hide her dark past. But the quite village turns into hell. An entire family dies burnt on their knees praying. They appear burnt one by one in successive nights and without a single reasonable or scientific explanation. So Alba has no option but to accept the guidance of a newly arrived clairvoyance gifted boy, who slowly makes her believe in paranormal issues. When the case is going nowhere only the child's gift - a child she has began to love as her own - seems to be the only chance to find an answer. But that answer brings new dangerous questions when the boy reveals that the killer she is looking for is the Virgin Mary [emphasis added]."

According to the Wikipedia article "Second death", "the majority of Christians who believe in the immortality of the soul regard the second death to mean eternal suffering or torment in a place called the Lake of Fire".

An English-subtitled trailer for The Second Death has been added to YouTube.

The screenplay for The Second Death was written by Santiago Fernández Calvete. In addition to the previously mentioned Agustina Lecouna, Mauricio Dayub, and Guillermo Arengo, the movie stars Germán de Silva and Tomás Carullo Lizzio.

BTW, if you haven't already done so, be sure to watch the teaser trailer for Bishop Koyama's Rain for the Dead (Ame-agari no kimi).

The Second Death is scheduled to have its international (i.e., outside-of-Argentina) premičre at this year's Puchon International Fantastic Film Festival (PiFan) on July 22nd, and to subsequently be screened there on July 25th.

BTW, if you haven't already done so, be sure to watch the theatrical trailer for Valentín Javier Diment's Memory of the Dead (La memoria del muerto) - the surprise movie at last year's Buenos Aires Rojo Sangre (BARS) film festival.

Valentín Javier Diment's aforementioned Memory of the Dead (La memoria del muerto) is scheduled to have its North American premičre at this year's Fantasia International Film Festival in Montréal, Canada on July 23rd. Note that, contrary to what Fantasia has claimed in press releases and on its website, the screening in question isn't the "World Premiere" of Memory of the Dead. The movie:
1) had its world premičre at BARS in Buenos Aires, Argentina on October 29th of last year;
2) was screened at BAFICI in Buenos Aires, Argentina on April 15th, 18th, and 21st of this year;
3) had its international premičre at Fantaspoa in Porto Alegre, Brazil on May 17th of this year, and was subsequently screened there on May 18th; and
4) was screened at Cinesul in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on June 28th of this year!
