I don't know, I've just never really been impressed with Led Zeppelin, myself... I know they're competent musicians and all, but... eh. I think there have been much better guitar players, bassists and drummers out there (but let's face it, Plant is the best vocalist EVAH), and definitely much better song writers.

I'll give you this...Skill-wise, Page wasn't at the top of the heap. I'm talking about just merely "playing" guitar. But as a musical songwriter, few guitarists have pushed the boundries of rock as much as Page did. His chord progressions were the work of a true pioneer.

Now, as far as all around muscianship and skill go, John Paul Jones was your man. I agree!

the Dickies do Led Zeppelin better than Zeppelin does when they cover Communication Breakdown.

Led Zeppelin perfected The Dickies' sound beyond any hope of their ever catching up to it when they INVENTED ROCK MUSIC.

you mean when they ruined rock and roll and forced it down a long steady decline into overblown, overproduced and completely dehumanized corporate image schlock?

I think the 70's was the fall, myself... with beginnings in the 60's. Granted, there was great music coming out ALL the time, it was just all under "the radar"
