I have never owned a Beatles CD. I have all of their LP's though. I really haven't listened to them since I was obsessed with them in grade school so I thought with these new remasters I'd check them out again.
I picked up my 2 favorites to start; Revolver and Abbey Road. They sound fantastic for sure and the packaging is quite slick with a booklet of pictures and a rundown of the recording sessions for the album. I might have to get 'em all now. |

I also picked up The White Album ($16 is nothing) and Rubber Soul and have done some direct comparisons with the previous releases using my gf's sons CD's. I don't have the eye or ear of a true audio/videophile but what really jumps out with these remasters is a very noticeable punch in the drums and bass.
Ah, I'm a sucker for remasters.
Rocky Raccoon was always a sad song to me. Although he finds redemption in the end I always felt bad for poor Rocky.
While My Guitar Gently Weeps sounds as good as it ever has. |

THE BEATLES are still my favorite band in the world at the end of the day. And a huuuge influence on me as a composer even when I was in the heaviest of bands.
Their arrangements (or rather McCARTNEY'S ARRANGEMENTS) are to be marveled at.
Genius then.
Genius now.

I agree.
At first listen their songs sound deceptively simple but they were really very complex and way ahead of their time. They really had a big hand in progressing the art of mixing an album in the studio because technology was never quite sufficient for them much like Pink Floyd.
I can't think of many bands that could or can harmonize like they could either except for maybe The Eagles.(Who I love also regardless of what anyone says)
The White Album makes me want to get stoned. |

The Beach Boys. Duh.
But, yeah.\ The Beatles, once more, are the greatest band ever. There can be no discussion to the contrary.
Still not going out and buying the remasters. Mostly, because I've but all of their albums at least once and I refuse to double dip. |

Ha, I love The Beach Boys. I've been wanting to pick up Brian Wilson's new album too. He used to live down the road from me.
I think they really could have milked the shit out of The beatles recordings but haven't. Hell, I think Iron Maiden has rereleased their albums more times.
There's also a new Collective Soul album out too. Damn. |

I don't like Dickies work clothes myself but to each his own.
I still can't believe I didn't mention The Beach Boys. They were one of my favs as a kid as well and Brian is a musical genious.
I was also into doo wop heavily as a kid.
I love harmonizing vocals. |

Yeah, they're kind of a novelty act, but that doesn't take away from what they do. Motherfuckers must practice their asses off. |

Those guys are awesome! I watched a bunch of their stuff. Wow I can't even put two fingers in my mouth and whistle really loud. |

To lead a better life I need my love to be here...
Here, making each day of the year
Changing my life with a wave of her hand
Nobody can deny that there's something there
There, running my hands through her hair
Both of us thinking how good it can be
Someone is speaking but she doesn't know he's there
I want her everywhere and if she's beside me
I know I need never care
But to love her is to need her everywhere
Knowing that love is to share
Each one believing that love never dies
Watching her eyes and hoping I'm always there
I want her everywhere and if she's beside me
I know I need never care
But to love her is to need her everywhere
Knowing that love is to share
Each one believing that love never dies
Watching her eyes and hoping I'm always there
To be there and everywhere
Here, there and everywhere
Listening to The Beatles now reminds me of 5th grade during the height of my obsession with them. I could never wait 'til homeroom in school everyday because sitting across from me was the most beautiful girl in the school and every morning we would get there early and sing Beatles songs together not even caring what the other kids were doing. We would look eachother in the eyes and sing away. I didn't have the balls then to ask a girl out and if there's "one that got away" in my life it's her. I can't help but think about her as I'm listening. |
