Michael Mann's next film, Public Enemies, will be about the FBI hunt for notorious bank robber John Dillinger. John Dillinger will be played by Johnny Depp and the FBI Agent leading the hunt will be played by Christian Bale.
I love films that replicate the 1930's era. I'm sure this one's going to be great. |

I REALLY REALLY hope it doesn't become an "American Gangster" wannabe.
Otherwise, anything with Christian Bale guarantees my attendance. _________________ ----------

It won't be.
Because Mann's a better director than Ridley Scott. |

It sounds good, though. _________________ ----------

Credit where credit is due, Dante Spinotti can light a film like a mother fucker. He works best though with Mann. They make great fucking movies. _________________ Insert that one line from that one movie from that one actor here. |

Blasphemy. |
Truth. Mann's better. Not only visually, but also when it comes to capturing character.
Scott directed two truly great films, no doubt. But those were well over twenty years ago.
He's also done some pretty damned bad ones, like SOMEONE TO WATCH OVER ME and MATCHSTICK MEN. GLADIATOR is utterly overrated tripe (yeah, you heard me right -it's SPARTACUS for morons) while AMERICAN GANGSTER was curiously flat and meandering.
Ridley Scott directed WHITE SQUALL.
Michael Mann directed ALI.
Ridley Scott directed (ugh) 1492: THE CONQUEST OF PARADISE
Michael Mann directed LAST OF THE MOHICANS.
Ridley Scott directed BLACK RAIN.
Michael Mann directed HEAT.
Ridley Scott directed fucking G.I. JANE.
Michael Mann directed THE INSIDER.
Mann wins, hands down. Both men are visual stylists, but Mann is a hell of a lot more than that. |

There are some shitstains on his filmography for sure, but Ridley has by far had a more profound effect on me than Mann has. I love Mann's work, HEAT is amazing, as well as Last of the Mohicans.
But scott has done BLACK HAWK DOWN, LEGEND, BLADE RUNNER, THELMA AND LOUISE, and most importantly ALIEN.
Is the man just as talented as he was 20 years ago, no probably not. But Michael Mann has made nothing I'm going to dedicate an entire wall of geekyness in my room too. Also it is important to note that Mann has directed less movies than Scott and therefore less room to make a mistake. Frankly, Mann is really only lost one movie for me, that being Miami Vice (which I know you love), but he is also made a lesser amount of films. But hey, I can see where you think Mann is better, I just disagree.
They are different directors, with different styles, and I love watching both their movies.
Scott just has that wee bit more pull than Mann. _________________ Insert that one line from that one movie from that one actor here. |

Johnny Depp and Christian Bale?
That's like a stroke film for straight chicks.

No kidding. I cannot fucking wait.
I love the original Warren Oates Dillinger too and have always been fascinated with the story so this will be indeed AWESOME.
I wonder who they will get to play Baby Face Nelson. Richard Dryfus was one of my favorite parts of the John Milius film. _________________ Insert that one line from that one movie from that one actor here. |
