More Chatter on The X-Files Revival; Fox Close to Giving it the Green-Light

Oh, what a difference a few years and the shift we’ve seen in TV-watching habits have made.  Back at the 2013 San Diego Comic-Con, during a panel commemorating the 20th anniversary of “The X-Files,” the group was asked about the possibility of returning for a limited or “event” series like what Fox was doing with “24″ at that time.  Co-star Gillian Anderson said she wasn’t interested in that, but “a film would be great.

Obviously, given all the buzz lately about the return of the show to the small screen, a theatrical endeavor isn’t happening any time soon, but said television revival is looking one step closer to becoming a reality.

Per TVWise, Fox is on the verge of giving an official green-light to the return of its iconic science fiction series, which originally aired between 1993 and 2002. Per sources, the network has settled on a “short-stack” order for the revival, and while the exact size is yet-to-be-determined, it will be less than ten episodes (previously the Daily Mail reported that there will be six). The site stressed that talks with sister studio 20th Century Fox Television are still ongoing.

The plan is to close out the lingering storylines left unresolved by the second feature film, I Want to Believe, which was a big disappointment to the fans.  Both Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny have, sources say, agreed to reprise their roles as Dana Scully and Fox Mulder. It is understood than an offer has gone out to Mitch Pileggi as well. Other key cast members will also return.

Scheduling looks to a big factor, but production could get under way as early as this summer.

Chris Carter will pen the scripts and also serve as an executive producer; Frank Spotnitz’s involvement is so far unclear.   It is hoped that the deal with the studio and other key players (including former members of the writing staff) will close soon. According to sources, Fox is aiming to make a “big announcement” just ahead of its upfront presentation in New York City this coming May.

Stay tuned… the truth is out there!
