Freaks of the Heartland comes to the big screen!Another Steve Niles title will be seeing its break on the big screen very soon; THR reports that Overture Films has brought on David Gordon Green (Pineapple Express) to direct an adaptation of Niles’ “>Freaks of the Heartland.

The official plot for the Dark Horse title breaks down like this: Trevor Owen has a younger brother who lives in the barn, too monstrous to be let into the house. The boy’s only six years old, but he towers over his older brother and possesses monstrous strength. For years, Trevor has looked after his baby brother, keeping him from the light, but now that’s all about to change. His family’s profane secret is about to be revealed, uncovering the horrible truth of the small Midwestern town the boys have grown up in.

Niles will be executive producing the film, with Dark Horse prez Mike Richardson and Green producing. The Freaks of the Heartland script was penned by newbies Peter Sattler and Geoff Davey. No word on when casting or shooting will begin, but my bet is they’ll be moving fast to get this out the door.
