let's all list ten great albums/cds and don't repeat anyone else's lists... let's compile a couple of hundred of the best of the best.

1. The Incredible Shrinking Dickies (the Dickies)
2. Leave Home (the Ramones)
3. The Nuns (the Nuns)
4. Plastic Surgery Disasters (the Dead Kennedys)
5. Pink Flag (Wire)
6. Crucifucks (the Crucifucks)
7. Singles Going Steady (the Buzzcocks)
8. Blank Generation (Richard Hell & the Voivods)
9. Generic (Flipper)
10. Negative Capability (the Urinals)

I might as well say it, London Calling is one of the ten best albums of all time, punk or otherwise.

That's just it...what is 'punk'?

Do you include The Stooges? If so then their first album is an absolute...Be Your Dog could be considered the first real punk song..debate?

How about X? Then See How We Are

Are the Cramps punk or rockabilly? Bad Music For Bad People

Black Flag?

I'd call all those punk... and for X I'd pick Wild Gift over See How We Are

Yeah, too much stuff can be considered punk. It's hard to compare albums by Devo and Black Flagg. And what about post-punk stuff like the Minutemen? Double Nickels On The Dime is a masterpiece...

I don't think anyone wants to be a prick about it and I know it's all in fun. I can only speak for myself but I was just wondering what you wanted to define as punk since it is your thread.

I wouldn't put Never Mind the Bollocks in any top ten list, ever. Really shitty album with maybe four or five decent songs. Public Image Ltd. is the only good thing Lydon's ever done.

I kid, I kid. I define punk more as an attitude and approach to music more than a "genre", myself.

I think that's the best way to do it. In that case an argument can be made for Elvis Costello...

I've been trying to do this straight from memory

Wendy O' Williams and the Plasmatics Butcher Baby

Nina Hagen Band ...unlikable but influential?

The Replacements (?) ...I can't decide, I love em all. I'll flip a coin and say Tim.

...grrr you already did the Ramones....

I want to say X Ray Spex but I'll be damned if I can actually remember anything.

X-Ray Spex only put out one album, Germ Free Adolescents... there are other outtake collections, as well, I think, but only the one proper release
