As you’re surely aware by now, Universal has grand plans to reboot its iconic monster properties, lumping them all together within a share universe that should be interesting to watch come together at the very least. Today a new writer comes aboard the ship so read on for the latest!

Per Deadline, Universal has tapped British writer Jay Basu to join its efforts to relaunch its library of classic monster movies. No stranger to monsters, Basu is the co-writer of Monsters: Dark Continent, currently in post-production. No word yet on which film he’ll be helping to write.

The architects of the new narrative are Alex Kurtzman and Chris Morgan. Kurtzman’s credits include Transformers, Star Trek, and The Amazing Spider-Man, while Morgan is the writer behind five installments of Universal’s Fast and Furious franchise

As we recently learned, the new monster movies will be more action than horror, which needless to say isn’t exactly good news for us horror fans…

We’ve tried over the years to make monster movies — unsuccessfully, actually,” admitted Universal Pictures chairman Donna Langley. “So, we took a good, hard look at it, and we settled upon an idea, which is to take it out of the horror genre, put it more in the action-adventure genre and make it present day, bringing these incredibly rich and complex characters into present day and reimagine them and reintroduce them to a contemporary audience.

Sigh.
