Actually, it was the 80's.

I think the 70's was the fall, myself... with beginnings in the 60's. Granted, there was great music coming out ALL the time, it was just all under "the radar"

Well, each decade has it's own rise and fall. Maybe except for this decade, which doesn't seem to have it's rise yet. I dunno My response seemed to fit your description of "overblown, overproduced and completely dehumanized corporate image schlock." Nevertheless, there's still much I love about the 80's. Pretty much for the same reasons I like to watch Ed Wood movies.

it's from 1977 or 78, I forget... so it predates new wave by quite a few years

So did The Talking Heads, but they were still New Wave.

they were considered a punk band in the beginning... most early punk really wasn't about mimicing musical stereotypes, but an attitude about non-conformity in music and dress... hence no mohawks and chains until the media got ahold of it. Talking Heads were considered more than new wave later on in their career... really, all of the terms are meaningless... music is music is music and 95% of all of it sucks

Totally agreed. Just applying general terms to describe a sound. They sound like a New Wave band to me. Due to the time of the clip, I'd definitely say they were trailblazers in discovering and popularizing that sound, but that doesn't mean they are exempt from the label.

fair enough... shit, man, this fucking day will not end... I just want to go home, get a few beers in me, then go play a show in the City and hopefully score with some groupies... this working a day job is the pits.

damn, that sucks... that was a great show... they need new banter, though, they've used the same jokes last three times I've seen them. Are you over 21, Klownzilla? my band, HotLips Messiah, is playing Betty's Blue Star Lounge tonight (Grand/Ashland)
