Has anyone but me seen this masterpiece yet?
Ryan Gosling stars as an inner city school teacher who also happens to be a basehead. One day he's caught in the bathroom smoking crack by a student and now they have to deal with it.
If anyone was jaded by his appearance in "The Notebook"--a good film in its own right--then look no further than "Half Nelson."
Gosling looks and acts like an honest to goodness teacher struggling to teach his kids, while entrapped in this unstoppable addiction. Gosling's role as a man in a downhill slope is very reminiscent of Ray Milland in "The Lost Weekend."
Wonderful "Lost Weekend" for the modern era.
I smell an Oscar nomination. _________________ ----------

Well, everyone was saying the same thing about "The Believer", and he saw nothing for that. _________________ Kate, Honey, I may be a bastard, but I'm not a fucking bastard.

"The Believer" was a TV movie wasn't it?
And it'd be a damn shame if he doesn't get a nomination for this. _________________ ----------

Showtime ran it first, but I could swear it was a studio film. _________________ Kate, Honey, I may be a bastard, but I'm not a fucking bastard.

TV movies that get a theater release aren't eligible for Oscar consideration, because it's still a TV movie in the end. Same thing happened with Linda Fiorentino and "The Last Seduction." _________________ ----------
