Dr. Paul Bearer is the reason I love the horror industry so much. Every Saturday morning from the 80's through he 90's, after all the cartoons ended, the good doctor was there to make me laugh and introduce the day's horror film. Creature Feature was a highlight of my childhood and teens.
Though his show may have been low budget and shown on the bastard tv network, UPN 44, it was still amazing. Even if the film that was being shown sucked holy hell you'd still stay tuned for the intermissions just to see Dr. Paul Bearer and maybe a special monster guest too.
To be honest, Dr. Paul's death in 1995 was only one of two times (the other being Vincent Price) I ever cried when hearing about a celeb passing away. I still have the news clippings that praised the host for all his years of work and love for his community and fans.
Dr. Paul Bearer ... I salute you!

Here is a rare interview with Dick Bennick about his career and how he came to my hometown, Tampa.

Am I the only one coming in here expecting to see a tribute to this guy?

| I moved to Bradenton, Fl. in '93 and quickly found Dr. Paul, he was seriously awesome. I was really down when I heard he died, to me it was the beginning of the end of great horror/cult tv shows. Within a few years MonsterVision, and Up All Night would follow suit, and then Tampa had nothing. I recently moved to Seattle, and was developing a horror show for broadcast on a local community access station I was working for. Until the other day when they let me go, but it was going to be an homage to shows like Creature Features w/ Dr. Paul, Elvira, Joe Bob, etc. I even had a bunch of indie horror studios interested in donating films to the show.... |

| I am SO glad you mentioned this! I grew up in Sarasota county and Dr. Paul Bearer and Creature Feature were a staple of my youth. I've been looking for full episodes of the show including his intros, the films, and hopefully even original 80s commercials. Does anyone out there have any of these on tape???? If so, PLEASE contact me, I am highly interested and would like to purchase them. Thanks! |
